About Chef & Artist Donna Goldman — aka
"After decades in the Rock 'n' Roll touring industry where your every whim is catered to yet I never felt satiated." I wanted to share my passion for the empowering skill that cooking is. I see cooking as a mindful workout, a meditation that exercises our brain, which we all know is helpful and healthy—so I developed and hosted Recipe$ 4 Survival, Utilitarian Cooking & Much More... The show debuted on MNN, (Manhattan's Neighborhood Network) in April '97. It didn't take long before dozens of viewers were calling in to comment on the shows. I was often recognized at music events, art galleries, downtown restaurants, and once by a cab driver—due in part to my distinctive voice. The show maintained an unprecedented prime time slot for over two years and earned cult-classic status for the show and recognition for myself. Fans from all over love my message: Cook more, Spend less and live mindfully.
As a graduate of Syracuse University's Crouse College with a BFA in Aesthetics & Art History, my approach to just about everything I do is downright 'tasteful.' After launching Recipe$ 4 $urvival I graduated from The Natural Gourmet and quickly found myself 'working the line' at Andre' Balazs' Sunset Beach on New York's Shelter Island under the tutelage of Chef Terry Harwood. Working with locally farmed produce, prepared with a acute attention to straightforward cooking techniques which heightened the natural flavors of the ingredients was truly inspirational to me. After the crash course at Sunset Beach, I worked as a private chef for clients in their homes on land or offshore where my love and passion for sailing became an added ingredient in my culinary skill set.
For the past 15 years, I continue to broadcast on all the media platforms the hysterical Recipes 4 Survival from my postage stamp-sized apartment. Inspired by my work as a voice artist and the launch of an abridged version of my 1st memoir on Audible & Kindle, Recipes 4 Survival, Make It On Your Own, I'm full swing in to producing, Recipes 4 Survival, the Episodic Cooking Show and DGTips, Teatime Conversations sparked by the theories of the Collective Unconcious podcasts. My dishes and tales are rich, inspired by the vibrant energy of daily life in Gotham City and told with the cutting edge eye of a rock 'n' roll production veteran. I approach each recipe economically and efficiently while continuing to share and prove my message that if you cook more, you'll spend less, and you'll feel way better.
